Mary Elliott, Membership Chair

Mary Elliott is a marketing specialist, attorney, cultural consultant and history researcher. Ms. Elliott currently works as a Marketing Specialist for the University of the District of Columbia, where she is responsible for marketing the urban land-grant university’s federally funded research and extension programs.  Her target audiences include all District residents, as well as potential partners and funders in the public, private and non-profit sectors.  Ms. Elliott also oversees Civil Rights training and compliance with regard to constituent relations and implementation of public programs presented by the federally funded units. 

 

Ms. Elliott has a diverse professional background.  In addition to her current position, She previously held the position of Attorney Advisor with the Office of the U.S. Architect of the Capitol, where served as a member of the labor contract negotiation team.  She also formerly worked in the hospitality industry and worked as a cultural consultant.  She is a former Rooms and Sales Manager with the historic Mayflower Hotel, in downtown Washington, D.C.   In her role as a cultural consultant Ms. Elliott’s client list includes but is not limited to the National Visionary Leadership Project, Reginald F. Lewis Museum of Maryland African American History and Culture, Association for the Study of African American Life & History and the Humanities Council of Washington, D.C.   Ms. Elliott provided a cross-section of services for her clients including public relations, fund and friend raising, program development and implementation, event planning, product development, infrastructure design, publicity, partnership development and corporate sponsorship.

 

Mary is an avid African American history researcher having traced her own family back to the Black Wall Street of Tulsa, OK and to the period of slavery.  She’s had the pleasure of serving in leadership positions with various organizations both locally and nationally.  Ms. Elliott is the former Chair of the Young Lawyers Division, Secretary and Board Member of the Washington Bar Association and she served as the National Secretary of the African American Historical and Genealogical Society.  Mary served as an original member of the Executive Event Planning Committee for the 105 Voices of History HBCU National Concert Choir and she is also a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.   

 

Ms. Elliott is a proud HBCU graduate of Howard University and a graduate of the Catholic University of America’s Columbus School of Law.
